Florida Rep. Lori Berman, D-Lantana, officially announced her bid for a seat on the Palm Beach County Commission Thursday, confirming an earlier report that she was considering such a run.
Berman, who can’t run for re-election to her state House seat next year because of term limits, is seeking to succeed Paulette Burdick as the county’s District 2 commissioner.
Burdick, who currently serves as county mayor, herself is term-limited in 2018.
District 2 covers parts of West Palm Beach and Greenacres. Another Democrat, Sylvia Sharps of Royal Palm Beach, is also seeking to win the District 2 seat.
Berman served four two-year terms in the House and says District 2’s issues are familiar to her.
“I know the district and I know the issues,” she said. “I’ve made it a point to know what is going on locally on a variety of issues from homelessness to sober homes, from economic development to the agricultural reserve. I can be a consensus builder on the commission and focus on helping our residents be successful.”
